Nigeria's food and drug watchdog razed counterfeit and expired medicines worth N15 billion Thursday in Ibadan, a sweeping strike against substandard products that could poison public health, as the agency vowed to keep shelves safe from quacks and smugglers.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC's director-general, oversaw the bonfire through her deputy for investigation and enforcement, Martins Iluyomade, who spotlighted banned killers like Analgin, Cocodamol, codeine cough syrup, tramadol, oxytocin, and rogue vaccines.

"These pose grave risks—we're committed to wholesome drugs for all," she affirmed, crediting a multi-agency dragnet with police, army, DSS, NDLEA, NSCDC, and PCN.

The haul—expired, unregistered fakes—hit streets hard, but the torching ensures no re-entry, Iluyomade said, urging families to shun unauthorized sellers.

Customs' S.K. Tijani, standing in for CG Bashir Adeniyi, hailed the synergy: "All hands on deck against unwholesome goods."

NAFDAC's purge echoes a nationwide crackdown, with Adeyeye's team licensing rigorously to shield consumers amid rising counterfeits that fuel antimicrobial resistance and needless deaths.

As ashes settled, the agency called for vigilance: "Educate your wards—quacks kill quietly.
